Privacy Policy
Austin's Radar is built around a simple idea: the app should know as little about you as possible while still showing you accurate weather radar.
What we collect on the device
The app uses your device's location only to center the radar on you when you tap the location button. Location data stays on your device and is never sent to us.
The app stores the last map region you viewed in iOS UserDefaults so you return to the same view on relaunch. This is local-only.
What our servers see
To show radar tiles, the app fetches images from tiles.austinsradar.com, which is a Cloudflare-cached endpoint backed by a Cloudflare Worker. Cloudflare receives standard HTTP request metadata (IP address, user agent, requested URL) the same as any website. We do not log or retain this data.
For radar coverage outside the contiguous United States, the Worker proxies image tiles from Rainbow.ai. Rainbow.ai's privacy policy applies to that traffic and is available at rainbow.ai.
Advertising
The free version of the app shows a single banner ad at the top of the screen, served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect:
- Your device's advertising identifier (IDFA), if you grant App Tracking Transparency permission
- Coarse approximate location derived from your IP address
- Standard device information (model, OS version)
This data is used by AdMob and its partners for ad targeting and fraud prevention. Google's ad technology privacy practices are described at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
If you decline App Tracking Transparency, ads still serve but use Apple's SKAdNetwork attribution instead, which provides aggregate-only analytics with no per-user tracking.
Subscribers to the ad-free tier do not see ads. AdMob receives no data from subscribers.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple via the App Store. We never see your name, email, payment method, or billing address. Apple notifies our app whether your subscription is currently active so we can hide the banner ad — that is the only subscription information our app receives.
What we don't collect
- No account creation, no username, no email
- No analytics SDK that tracks you across the app
- No crash reporting that includes personal information
- No data sold to data brokers, ever
Children
Austin's Radar is rated 4+ in the App Store and is suitable for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices
- Ad tracking: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → toggle Austin's Radar off.
- Location: Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Austin's Radar.
- Subscription: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.
- EU/UK users: a Google-provided consent dialog appears on first launch with options for personalized ads, non-personalized ads, or no consent.
Changes
If this policy materially changes, we'll update the effective date at the top and, where appropriate, surface the change in-app on the next launch.
